KINSTON, NC - On Monday the Carolina League announced their players of the week for games played May 21st-28th. Down East INF Anderson Tejeda was named as the Carolina League Player of the Week for the first time this season.
Tejeda, 20, smashed three homers in the week highlighted by a two-homer game on Sunday against the Frederick Keys. He lead the league in OPS (1.245), RBI (8), homers (3), total bases (23), runs (6), and extra-base hits (5).
The award is not only the first for Tejeda, but the first for a Wood Duck hitter in two seasons of existence. This week marks back-to-back weeks with a Wood Duck claiming an award as Edgar Arredondo was the Pitcher of the Week seven days ago.
Tejeda is the fifth Wood Duck to ever earn a weekly honor from the Carolina League. He joins Arredondo, Pedro Payano, Jeffrey Springs, and Wes Benjamin who were awarded Pitcher of the Week honors.
