CORPUS CHRISTI - The Hooks earned a second consecutive win and a series split with a rousing 3-1 triumph over the RockHounds before 3,755 fans Sunday afternoon at Whataburger Field.

Justin Thomas Jr. severed a 1-1 tie with a long two-run home run to left field in the eighth inning. Midland pitching had set down 17 of 18 before Alejandro Nuñez's base hit to right opened the frame.

Thomas has gone deep in back-to-back games with both of his Double-A hits landing as home runs, including a lead-off salvo Saturday night.

James Hicks turned in a fine start for the Hooks, firing five innings of one-run ball. Hicks scattered three hits and one walk while striking out two.

Andrew Marrero and lefty Colby Langford collaborated on a scoreless sixth.

Thanks to a double play, Joey Mancini faced three batters in the seventh.

Amilcar Chirinos stranded two in the eighth before finishing the game with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Chirinos is now 5-1 with a 2.94 ERA and eight saves over 42 appearances while striking out 63 in 49.0 innings.

Thomas accounted for all three runs Sunday as he drew a lead-off walk in the first. The 22-year-old from Savannah, Georgia stole second and darted home on a base hit by Will Bush.
