Jake Thompson matched a career-high eight scoreless innings, and the IronPigs (47-24) shutout the Pawtucket Red Sox (34-34) for the second consecutive night, by the score of 7-0 Tuesday night at McCoy Stadium.

The Dallas native picked up his third win of the season as he matched a career-high with his eight innings pitched. Thompson has now gone eight innings on five occasions, with the previous eight-inning outing being just a day short of a year ago today against the Norfolk Tides on June 21, 2016.
Thompson racked up six strikeouts and yielded just six while walking a pair.
Both starters were dealing early, as Pawtucket's starter Jalen Beeks began the night tossing four scoreless frames of his own.
The Pigs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run double by Pedro Florimón, scoring Héctor Gómez and Osmel Aguila.
Jantzen Witte nearly answered right back in the bottom half of the inning, as the first baseman launched a fly ball to right field, however, Dylan Cozens leaped and took away a lead-off homer.
J.P. Crawford returned to the Pigs lineup in style, as the shortstop singled home Hector Gomez with a base hit to center field to give the Pigs a 3-0 lead in the seventh.
The Pigs then added a three-run eighth inning, as Rhys Hoskins began the rally as he reached on a error by Mike Miller that allowed Jorge Alfaro to score to put the Pigs on top 4-0. Hector Gomez then made the Paw Sox pay for the miscue, as the third baseman roped a two-run double to center field scoring Dylan Cozens and Hoskins to stretch the Pigs lead to 6-0.
Hoskins then scored Alfaro again in the top of the ninth on a RBI single to give the Pigs a 7-0 advantage heading to the bottom of the ninth.
Fresh up from his promotion from Double-A Reading, John Richy made his Triple-A debut and tossed a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the Pigs International League leading 10th shutout victory of the season.
After allowing a lead-off single to Bryce Brentz, Allen Craig flew out to right and Blake Swihart grounded into a game-ending double play.
The series concludes with game three of the three-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox Wednesday night at McCoy Stadium. The Pigs will send left-hander César Ramos (4-1, 2.95) and the Paw Sox will send right-hander Marcus Walden (6-3, 3.10). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
