JACKSON, Tenn. (July 27, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, scored three runs in the third inning to defeat the Jackson Generals 4-2 Thursday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.
With the game tied 2-2 in the third, Zach Houchins hit his eighth home run of the season. The two-run blast to left field put the BayBears (44-57 overall, 14-18 second half) back in the lead, after briefly falling behind 2-1. Houchins finished 2-for-4, recording his team-high 29th multi-hit game.
Tyler Carpenter (2-5) earned his first win since Opening Day, only allowing four hits in five innings pitched. Jackson (54-49, 17-16) scored two runs, one earned, on a Kelly Dugan double in the first inning.
Kevin Grendell , Michael Dimock , and Greg Mahle combined to hold the Generals to just one hit over the final four innings. Grendell and Mahle retired the side in order in the sixth and ninth, and Dimock struck out three batters in two innings of relief.
The BayBears continue the five-game road series against Jackson Friday at 6:05 p.m. CT. Right-handed pitcher Grayson Long (5-6, 3.18 ERA) is slated to make the start against righty Joel Payamps (4-4, 5.59 ERA) for the Generals.
