Wells, a Las Vegas native, was called up to Double-A Somerset on July 5 after successful stints with Low-A Tampa and High-A Hudson Valley. Across 37 games between both teams, Wells slashed .295/.414/.550 with eight home runs, 22 RBI and 27 walks. Behind the plate, he caught 18 runners stealing.

Pereira followed soon after with a promotion to Double-A on July 13 and made his Patriots debut the same night. Much like Wells, Pereira began the season in High-A Hudson Valley and developed into one of the most consistent hitters on the team with a .274 batting average along with nine home runs and a team-high 43 runs. Prior to his call up, Pereira was on a seven-game hitting streak between July 4 to July 12 in which he batted .355 with two homers and 11 RBI.

With the insertion of Wells and Pereira, the Patriots now hold eight top-30 prospects including five top-15 prospects.

Volpe, Wells and Pereira are no strangers to each other as the trio spent time as teammates in both Tampa and Hudson Valley last season prior to their reunion in Somerset. All three players began 2021 with the Tarpons before Volpe was promoted to the Renegades in mid-July with Wells along with Pereira following him in early August.

Volpe and Wells were also both first round picks by the Yankees in back-to-back years in 2019 and 2020 respectively.
