CLEARWATER, Fla. - Jose Pujols slashed a bases-clearing triple in the fourth inning on Star Wars Night, but the Threshers suffered a 7-3 loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays before a season-high 5,618 in attendance at Spectrum Field.
Darick Hall finished 2-for-4 in the loss, extending his hit streak to seven games. Austin Listi worked a walk in the fourth and has now reached base in 10 straight.
The Blue Jays (11-17) opened the scoring in the first inning facing Sixto Sanchez (1-2), when Logan Warmoth doubled with one out and scored on Nash Knight's RBI single.
Dunedin tacked on three more in the second inning, connecting for four consecutive hits to start the frame. Rodrigo Orozco's two-run triple, followed by an Ivan Castillo single to center made it 4-0 Blue Jays.
In the middle of the fourth inning, the game entered a one-hour rain delay that bumped both starting pitchers from the game.
Upon resumption, Listi worked a leadoff walk against reliever Andy Ravel, and Hall followed with a single to center. With one down, Edgar Cabral reached on an error to load the bases.
Pujols brought all three home, ripping a triple to the wall in left-center to cut the deficit to one.
The Blue Jays bounded back in the top of the fifth, when Nash Knight walked and Bradley Jones doubled to right to open the inning against Felix Paulino.
Paulino struck out Alberto Mineo swinging on a fastball, but Riley Adams came through with a sacrifice fly, and Eduard Pinto followed with a single through the right side to make it 6-3 Blue Jays.
Dunedin tacked on its final run in the eighth, when Josh Palacios reached on an infield single off Blake Quinn, stole second, moved to third on a fly out, and scored on Bradley Jones' sacrifice fly.
The series finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m., as Bailey Falter (3-0) toes the rubber against Patrick Murphy (1-1). The game will be broadcast live on threshersbaseball.com starting at 12:45 p.m.
