BOX SCORE

CLEARWATER, FL - The Clearwater Threshers breezed by the Tampa Tarpons 8-1 on Sunday afternoon to secure a six-game sweep at BayCare Ballpark.

Right-hander Gunner Mayer made his third start of the season for Clearwater, allowing only one hit, a solo home run, while walking one and striking out four in five innings of work. Mayer was credited with the first win of his professional career.

Trailing 1-0 early, the Threshers (7-8) scratched across one run in the first on an error and another in the second on an RBI double by Marcus Lee Sang.

Leading 2-1 in the sixth, Jadiel Sanchez walked and Aldrem Corredor singled before first baseman Felix Reyes belted his first homer of the season, a three-run shot out to left-center to increase the lead to 5-1.

The Threshers used a trio of relievers in lefty Gabriel Yanez, as well as right-handers Buddy Hayward and Cam Wynne in the final four innings to keep the Tarpons (6-9) bats quiet and grab a sixth consecutive win. The trio allowed only one combined hit the rest of the way and struck out six. Clearwater pitching held the Tampa offense to just six total runs in the six-game set, including two shutouts.

Following an off-day Monday, the Threshers will travel to Fort Myers to battle the first place Mighty Mussels in a six-game series beginning on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Hammond Stadium.
