WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (April 13, 2023) — The Hudson Valley Renegades scored six unanswered runs to defeat the Aberdeen IronBirds 6-4 on Thursday night at Heritage Financial Park.

Aberdeen plated the game’s opening run in the opening inning for the first time in the series. After Tyrone Yulie issued a leadoff walk to Max Wagner, Yulie attempted a pickoff throw to first base that went wide and down the right field line. Wagner ended up at third base and scored on a Jud Fabian sacrifice fly.

Aberdeen kept the bats rolling in the fifth with a leadoff double by Noelbert Romero. Luis Valdez singled him home to pad the lead to 2-0. After a throwing error scored Valdez and allowed Wagner to reach base safely, Nick Paciorek (1-0) entered from the bullpen. Fabian plated his second run of the night with an RBI single to score Wagner. It was the first inherited runner to score off the ‘Gades bullpen this season. Paciorek struck out the next two batters to leave Fabian stranded at second base.

Hudson Valley quickly cut into the 4-0 deficit at the halfway mark with a solo home run by Ben Cowles in the fifth off Aberdeen starter Jean Pinto. It was his second home run in as many nights.

Ignacio Feliz (0-1) was the first man out of the bullpen for the IronBirds and the Renegades offense came to life. Aldenis Sanchez and Aaron Palensky each reached base to start the frame. They executed a double steal to place themselves in scoring position, which allowed Sanchez to score on an RBI groundout from Rafael Flores and cut the lead down to 4-2. Cowles was hit by a pitch to place two runners on for Marcos Cabrera.

Cabrera hit a line drive to dead center and raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, giving Hudson Valley a 5-4 lead. In the seventh, Antonio Gómez provided an RBI double as an insurance run to push the advantage to 6-4.

Ryan Anderson retired the IronBirds in order to secure his first save of the season and the third straight win for Hudson Valley. The ‘Gades bullpen retired the last fourteen batters to end the ballgame.

Hudson Valley and Aberdeen continue their six-game series Friday night at Heritage Financial Park as Zach Messinger faces off against Jake Lyons. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 5:45.
