Thunder sweep Sea Dogs with 9-4 win

Portland, Maine- The Trenton Thunder (64-31) scored eight of nine runs with two outs and swept the Sea Dogs with a 9-4 win on Wednesday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Portland, Maine- The Trenton Thunder (64-31) scored eight of nine runs with two outs and swept the Sea Dogs with a 9-4 win on Wednesday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

The sweep is the first three-gamer the Sea Dogs have suffered at home this season, the only other home sweep was a one-game series vs. Hartford on April 24th.
 
Trenton got on the board in the third inning against Trey Ball with four unearned runs resulting from an error by Jordan Procyshen on a foul pop-up. After the error, Jorge Mateo doubled in a run then four batters later Zack Zehner hit a three-run homer with two outs to make it 4-0 Trenton.
 
Portland got a run back in the third on an RBI single by Nick Lovullo and scored again in the fourth on a solo homer by Jeremy Barfield to cut the deficit to 4-2.
 
The Thunder responded with three more runs in the fifth - all scoring with two outs against Taylor Grover. Zehner did more damage with an RBI single then Dante Bichette, Jr. tripled in two more runs to extend the Thunder lead to 7-2.
 
The Sea Dogs began to climb back in the sixth against starter Zack Littell. With the bases empty and two out, Chad De La Guerra walked, then Mike Olt doubled him in and Cole Sturgeon followed with a single to make it 7-4 Trenton.
 
The Thunder added two more two-out runs in the ninth on a triple by Billy Fleming off of Trevor Kelley to score two.
 
Littell (5-0) allowed four runs on seven hits over six innings, he walked two and fanned nine. Ball (3-9) went three innings and allowed four runs (all unearned) on five hits while walking two and striking out two.
 
Taylor Grover struck out a career-high seven in four innings of relief for Portland.
 
The Sea Dogs open up a five-game series against the Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies' affiliate) tomorrow for a 7:00 PM start at Hadlock Field. RHP Elih Villanueva (3-3, 6.94) is scheduled to start for Portland against RHP Parker French (7-7, 5.46) of Hartford.
