TinCaps Take Two Over Loons, Martinus Hits Two Homers for Great Lakes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Great Lakes Loons (64-48) (27-21) fell to the Fort Wayne TinCaps (48-65) (21-26) in the resumption of a suspended game from August 2nd, 6-5 and in a seven-inning game 7-4 on a 76-degree partly cloudy Tuesday evening at Parkview Field.

TinCaps 6, Loons 5 – Continuation of Suspended Game from August 2nd

- Fort Wayne led 6-2, when the teams resumed play in the top of the fifth. Justin Chambers and Reynaldo Yean combined for a scoreless three innings.

- Great Lakes left three on base in the fifth and sixth inning. Two Loons batters were hit by a pitch from reliever Isaiah Lowe. Mairo Martinus rocked a ball over the right field wall to cut the deficit to 6-4. Eduardo Guerrero roped a single the opposite way into left field to pull within one. TinCaps reliever Will Varmette earned the final out.

TinCaps 7, Loons 4 – Seven Innings

- Fort Wayne tallied five runs off six hits in the first two innings. Rosman Verdugo drove in three runs on two hits, both times slapping payoff pitches into left field. Kasen Wells had two hits and two RBI adding a stolen base. Great Lakes starter Jacob Frost tossed three innings.

- Loons third baseman Mairo Martinus delivered home all four runs. Nico Perez started the second inning with a double and Martinus infield single up the middle plated him. In the top of the sixth, Jaron Elkins and Jose Meza each reached on their second hit of the game. Martinus on a 0-2 pitch, mashed a ball off The Summit beyond the centerfield fence to make it 5-4 TinCaps.

- Facing Seamus Barrett, the TinCaps added two insurance runs. Fort Wayne shortstop Bradley Frye doubled off the right field wall to drive home two runs.

- TinCaps reliever Bernard Jose earned the final five outs, inducing a groundout double play to the end the game.

Rounding Things Out

West Michigan lost today. The Whitecaps have a 1.5 game lead over the Loons in the Midwest League East Division second half standings.
