Tortugas Split Thursday Twin Bill with St. Lucie

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Daytona Tortugas used a four-run third inning and 5.1 dominant relief innings from Jake Brink to take the opener of Thursday's doubleheader, 8-2, before the St. Lucie Mets scored three times in the third inning of game two and held on for a 3-1 victory at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.

Daytona snapped a three-game losing streak with the game-one victory before settling for a split of the twin bill. The Tortugas moved to 55-67 overall and 34-22 in the second half, while St. Lucie took a 2-1 lead in the six-game series.

Game 1: Daytona 8, St. Lucie 2

The Rundown

St. Lucie threatened immediately against Iker Redona, putting runners at second and third with nobody out in the first on consecutive doubles from Boston Baro and Aiden Robbins. Redona responded by striking out Jack Toomey, Kuhio Aloy and Yovanny Rodriguez consecutively to escape the inning without allowing a run.

Daytona put its first two hitters aboard in the bottom half, but Mulivai Levu lined into a triple play to end the inning.

The Mets broke through in the second when Ryan Tayman led off with a solo home run to center. Redona later loaded the bases with two outs before Jake Brink entered and retired Toomey on a fly ball, stranding all three inherited runners and keeping the deficit at 1-0.

From there, Brink took control. The right-hander retired St. Lucie in order in the third and fourth while the Daytona offense surged ahead.

Drew Davies started the comeback with a one-out solo home run to left-center in the third, his sixth homer of the season, to tie the game. Steele Hall then walked, stole second and scored when Levu singled to right, putting Daytona ahead for the first time.

After Arnaldo Lantigua walked, Adolfo Sanchez doubled down the right-field line to bring home both Levu and Lantigua and extend the lead to 4-1.

Daytona added two more in the fourth. Rafhlmil Torres led off with a double to right-center, stole third and scored on a wild pitch. After Sherman Johnson walked and stole second, Hall doubled into the left-center-field gap to bring him home and make it 6-1.

Robbins briefly interrupted Brink's run when he hit a solo home run in the fifth, but the right-hander immediately settled back in and retired the next three hitters.

The Tortugas answered in the bottom half. Jirvin Morillo doubled to left with two outs before Torres singled him home for a 7-2 advantage.

Daytona tacked on its final run in the sixth. Ichiro Cano singled and Johnson walked before Hall reached on a fielder's choice and throwing error that allowed Cano to score.

Brink finished the game himself in the seventh. After a leadoff strikeout, Baro singled, but Brink induced Robbins into a game-ending double play to complete 5.1 innings of dominant relief.

Brink allowed just two hits and one run while walking one and striking out four. He retired 16 of the 18 batters he faced, stranded all three runners he inherited and earned his second victory of the season.

Game 2: St. Lucie 3, Daytona 1

The Rundown

Daytona struck first against Nathan Hall in the bottom of the first. After the first two hitters were retired, Mulivai Levu doubled to left and Adolfo Sanchez followed with a double into the left-center-field gap to score Levu and give the Tortugas a 1-0 lead.

Dusty Revis worked around a walk in the first and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second to preserve the advantage.

St. Lucie broke through in the third. Jack Toomey singled to left before Yovanny Rodriguez doubled down the left-field line to put two runners in scoring position. Jeremy Rodriguez followed with an RBI single to tie the game before Branny De Oleo singled home Yovanny Rodriguez to put the Mets ahead.

Wyatt Vincent then collected St. Lucie's fourth consecutive hit, an RBI single to right that scored Jeremy Rodriguez and extended the Mets' lead to 3-1. Revis recovered by catching Vincent stealing and striking out Reed Stallman to end the inning.

The three-run frame proved to be the difference.

Revis retired St. Lucie in order in the fourth before Logan Tanner took over in the fifth and delivered three scoreless innings of relief. Tanner allowed only one hit, did not issue a walk and struck out four while retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced.

Daytona, however, could not solve the St. Lucie bullpen. After Sanchez's RBI double in the first, Mets pitching retired 14 consecutive Tortugas before Ichiro Cano doubled with two outs in the sixth. Levu lined out to strand him at second.

The Tortugas mounted one final threat in the seventh when Morillo doubled down the left-field line with one out. He advanced to third on a groundout, but Drew Davies grounded out to end the game and secure the doubleheader split.

Game 2 Stat of the Game

3.0 — Tanner set a new career high with three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit and no walks while striking out four and retiring nine of the 10 hitters he faced. Tanner’s 3.0 IP surpasses his previous career high of 2.0 IP which he had done twice previously, most recently August 8, 2026 (game two) at St. Lucie.
