Tower Buzzers Stun Quakes, Grab Walk-off Win

Ontario, Calif. – The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes (29-36, 65-66) could not close out the Ontario Tower Buzzers (38-27, 71-60) in the final moments on Saturday night at ONT Field as they suffered a heartbreaking 11-10 defeat in walk-off fashion.

The Tower Buzzers did not wait around to open the scoring as Kellon Lindsey launched a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Quakes were quick to cancel it out and take a lead of their own. Lucas Ramirez blasted a solo home run in the top of the second, and one frame later, Joswa Lugo’s RBI single cashed in an Angel Arredondo two-bagger, firing Rancho Cucamonga ahead 2-1.

Ontario kicked their offense into gear in the bottom of the fourth, busting the game open. They struck for eight runs, punctuated by an Easton Shelton grand slam, establishing an 8-2 edge headed towards the contest’s halfway point.

At that point, Brayan Vergara emerged from the Quakes bullpen and proceeded to shut the red-hot Tower Buzzers lineup down. The right-hander tossed 3.1 scoreless innings, scattering two hits and a walk, also striking out two hitters to keep Rancho Cucamonga in the game.

Rancho Cucamonga’s bats paid off Vergara’s efforts in the top of the seventh, rallying for six runs to pull even. Ramirez and Marlon Quintero drew walks to open the frame, and after a T.J. Ford groundout advanced them both 90 feet, Anyelo Marquez supplied a sacrifice fly to bring Ramirez home. Arredondo then laced a single to plate Quintero, and following a Lugo walk and Gabriel Davalillo hit-by-pitch, Jeffery Heard worked a bases-loaded walk to lower the deficit to three. John Wimmer added on a three-run double, completing the outburst by leveling the score at eight.

The very next inning, the Quakes completed their comeback. Ford converted Quintero’s leadoff double, ripping a go-ahead single back up the middle. A pair of free passes promptly loaded the bases, and Heard drew another to add an insurance run, providing Rancho Cucamonga a 10-8 edge.

Nevertheless, the Tower Buzzers struck back in the bottom of the ninth to have the last laugh. They strung together three runs, all with two outs, and Ching-Hsien Ko’s opposite-field bloop single ended the night by lifting Ontario to victory.

The Quakes take the field one more time on Sunday at 1:05 PM to close out the 2026 season against the Tower Buzzers at ONT Field. RHP Jack O’Connor gets the ball for Ontario while Rancho Cucamonga has not yet named their starting pitcher.
