Trenton scores late to beat Portland, 3-1

Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Thunder (83-43) scored two runs in the seventh inning, and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (59-66), 3-1, Monday night at Arm & Hammer Park in the series opener. Portland has lost all five games on the roadtrip. Michael Chavis had a career-high 4 hits.

Trenton, NJ - The Trenton Thunder (83-43) scored two runs in the seventh inning, and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (59-66), 3-1, Monday night at Arm & Hammer Park in the series opener. Portland has lost all five games on the roadtrip. Michael Chavis had a career-high 4 hits.

Trenton snapped a 1-1 tie off losing pitcher Jacob Dahlstrand (5-3). Nick Solak and Mike Ford had RBI singles in the seventh inning. 
Lefty James Reeves (2-0) worked two innings on two hits to earn the win for Trenton. Andrew Schaab (save #1) fanned Josh Tobias with a runner at second base to end the game.
Trenton struck in their first turn, receiving an unearned run against Dedgar Jimenez. Jeff Hendrix led off with a single and scored on an error by 1B Josh Ockimey.
Jimenez was excellent for Portland, hurling six strong innings on four hits, one unearned run, two walks and five strikeouts. Trenton starter Brody Koerner fired 6.2 innings on eight hits and one run.
Portland tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth inning with three consecutive baserunners. Chad De La Guerra began the rally with a walk, Josh Tobias singled and Chavis nailed a run-scoring double. 
Tobias extended his hitting streak to seven games. Henry Urrutia went 2-for-3 with a walk.
The Portland Sea Dogs and Trenton Thunder (Yankees affiliate) continue their three-game series on Tuesday night from Arm & Hammer Park. Portland sends lefty Trey Ball (6-10, 5.46) to the hill for his 23rd appearance of the year. Trenton has RHP Jose Mesa Jr. Jr. (2-0, 1.47) making a spot start. RHP Domingo Acevedo was the original starter, but was placed on the disabled list before Monday's game.
