VANCOUVER, BC – In the last home game of the regular season on Sunday at The Nat, the Canadians secured a 4-3 win over the Spokane Indians (COL) in front of their High-A era franchise-record 29th sellout crowd of the season. Spokane scored first and took a three-run lead over the C’s, but they responded with two solo homers from Ryan Sprock and Maddox Latta and a go-ahead two-RBI double from Jake Casey to score the winning runs. With the win, the Canadians secured the series (4-2) and season series (16-14) against Spokane and remain alone in first place in the Northwest League second half standings. Vancouver’s magic number to clinch a playoff spot over Everett (SEA) has been shaved to three with six games to play.
The Indians struck first with a solo home run in the third and added to their lead by scoring two runs in the fourth. The C’s answered with a Sprock solo shot to right field in the bottom of the fourth. Maddox Latta sent a big fly to center field that went 411 feet to open the home half of the fifth inning to pull Vancouver within a run. Jaxson West followed with a single, and two batters later JoJo Parker singled before Jake Casey sent both runners home with a two-out double to make the score 4-3 and give the Canadians a lead they wouldn’t give up.
Silvano Hechavarria got the start; he went for 4.2 innings, giving up seven hits, three runs (two earned), walked none and struck out two. Carson Myers (W, 2-2) held the middle innings scoreless with no hits, walking just one and striking out one. Bradley Wilson (S, 2) entered the game in the seventh, where he scattered two hits in his 2.2 innings. In the ninth, he struck out the first two batters with six pitches and retired the third via a 4-1 groundout; he was one pitch shy of an immaculate inning.
The Canadians will have an off day on Monday while they head to Tri-City (LAA) for their final series of the regular season. First pitch on Tuesday night at Gesa Stadium in Pasco, WA is set for 6:30 p.m.
