If all you saw of Aramis Ademan were his games against the Hops, you'd figure the Chicago Cubs might have a new shortstop within a couple years. The third-year infielder from the Dominican has been a major reason for the Eugene Emeralds dominance over the Hops this season.
Ademan went 3-for-4 with a walk, drove in the tying run and scored the go-ahead run in a four-run seventh inning as the Emeralds came from behind to beat the Hops 7-5 Wednesday night in the first game of a three-game series at Ron Tonkin Field.

In a game that featured five triples, the Emeralds turned two of them into the tying runs in the seventh inning. Ademan pulled a grounder through a hole on the right side against a drawn-in Hops infield to score Zach Davis with the tying run in the seventh, later scoring on Brandon Hughes' two-out, two-RBI single.
Cal Becker took the loss for the Hops, surrendering four hits and three earned runs in the seventh inning.
The Hops took a 4-0 lead early against Eugene starting pitcher Bailey Clark. Clark walked three consecutive batters to start the second inning and all three would score, with Yan Sanchez and Bryan Araiza delivering two-out, RBI hits.
Sanchez knocked home Billy Endris with his second triple of the game in the fourth inning to give Hillsboro a 5-3 lead, but Hillsboro would have just two hits and three baserunners the rest of the way.
Jhon Romero replaced Clark and struck out Araiza to end the fourth, the first of five punch-outs in 2 1/3 hitless innings as he earned his first win of the year.
Jake Steffens and Brian Glowicki held the Hops in check the rest of the way.
Down 5-3 in the seventh, Eugene led off the inning with a Kwang-Min Kwon triple into the right field corner off starter Riley Smith. Kwan scored on Rafael Narea's grounder to short. Becker relieved Smith with one out and the bases clear and immediately surrendered a triple to Zach Davis to nearly the same spot in right before Ademan delivered his game-tying hit. With two outs and the bases loaded, Brandon Hughes fouled off two pitches with a 3-2 count before hitting a soft liner over the head of third baseman Eudy Ramos to deliver the go-ahead runs.
Hughes also tripled and scored in the fourth inning, finishing the night 2-for-4 at the plate for Eugene. Sanchez went 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored for Hillsboro.
Game two of the series is at 7:05 p.m. Thursday night with pregame coverage starting at 6:35 p.m. on Rip City Radio 620 AM.
