PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the winners of the Eastern League Player of the Week Award and Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for the period of June 19th through June 25th.

Reading Fightin Phils outfielder Jiandido Tromp has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Week for the period of June 19th-June 25th. The 23-year old batted .455 (10-for-22) with two doubles, four home runs, seven RBIs, five runs scored, one walk, and a 1.091 slugging percentage in six games last week. Tromp, who is a native of Oranjestad Noord, Aruba, had at least one hit in all six of the games he played in last week and had multiple hits in three of those games, including going 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, and two runs scored in Reading's 11-2 victory over the visiting Akron RubberDucks on Wednesday. That was the middle game of a stretch of three straight games with a homer for Tromp. The 5'11", 175 lb. slugger led all Eastern League players in total bases (24), slugging percentage (1.091), and OPS (1.591) last week and tied for the league lead in home runs (4), hits (10), and extra-base hits (6). He also finished ranked among the weekly leaders in RBIs (7-tied 2nd), runs scored (5-tied 6th), batting average (.455-8th), on-base percentage (.500-tied 8th), and doubles (2-tied 10th). Jiandido, who is hitting .283 with nine homers, 27 RBIs, and 30 runs scored in 56 games with Reading this season, was signed by the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent on August 8, 2011.

Matt Gage, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Richmond Flying Squirrels, has been selected as the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 19th-June 25th. The 6'4", 240 lb. hurler started one game for the Flying Squirrels last week and had a record of 1-0 with three strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA. Gage, who is a native of Niskayuna, New York, made his lone start of the week on Thursday against the visiting Hartford Yard Goats and pitched a five-hitter to lead Richmond to a 3-0 victory. He struck out three batters and walked one over nine innings of work. It was the first nine inning shutout thrown by an Eastern League pitcher this season and the fourth in franchise history by a Richmond pitcher. With his performance Matt improved his record to 4-4 and lowered his ERA to 2.95, which currently ranks fourth in the league. The 24-year old was the only Eastern League pitcher to throw a shutout last week and he also ranked among the weekly league leaders in wins (1-tied 1st), ERA (0.00-tied 1st), complete games (1-tied 1st), WHIP (0.67-4th), innings pitched (9.0-5th), and batting average against (.167-tied 5th). Matt was selected by the San Francisco Giants in the 10th round of the 2014 draft after going 4-7 with 90 strikeouts and a 4.50 ERA as a junior at Siena College.
