Underwood, Bote Drive Iowa to 4-1 Victory

ROUND ROCK, TX -Duane Underwood Jr. twirled 7.0 brilliant innings as the Iowa Cubs (7-21) punched a 4-1 win over the Round Rock Express (11-20), Sunday at Dell Diamond. Underwood allowed just one hit, walked two and fanned seven as he captured his first Triple-A victory.

ROUND ROCK, TX -Duane Underwood Jr. twirled 7.0 brilliant innings as the Iowa Cubs (7-21) punched a 4-1 win over the Round Rock Express (11-20), Sunday at Dell Diamond. Underwood allowed just one hit, walked two and fanned seven as he captured his first Triple-A victory.

After being limited to two hits and two walks through four, the I-Cubs broke through with six-straight hits in the fifth to lead to a 3-0 edge. Mike Freeman, David Bote and Mark Zagunis all collected RBI in the inning. 
Bote added to Iowa's lead in the seventh, homering for the second time in as many days. The infielder finished the game a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs and two RBI. It marked the first five-hit game for an I-Cub since 2014.
Shae Simmons picked up for Underwood in eighth and the shutout was quickly foiled with a solo shot from Andy Ibáñez. Simmons got out of the inning with no further damage and would give Iowa two more outs in the ninth, before Anthony Bass came on to collect the final out and capture the save.  
The I-Cubs got hits from eight of nine starters as they outhit the Express 12-2. Iowa improved to 2-1 in the series as the team has grabbed back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
