Unroe's Perfect Day at the Plate Helps Knights Top Redbirds

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte Knights opened up their six-game homestand with an impressive 8-2 victory over the visiting Memphis Redbirds on Tuesday night. Charlotte took advantage of five Memphis errors and Riley Unroe launched a two-run Home Run in the win.

Unroe reached base in all four of his plate appearances with a single, a walk, and a hit-by-pitch to go along with his fourth inning two-run homer. Kyle Teel, Michael Turner, Mario Camilletti, and Andy Weber all reached base twice in the balanced offensive attack.

Drew Thorpe took the mound for Charlotte and covered 4.2 innings in his first ever start at Truist Field. The right-hander surrendered a first inning run; however, the Knights scored the game’s next six runs and took control.

Jairo Iriarte, Chris Murphy, Tyler Gilbert, and Garrett Schoenle combine to pitch 4.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen behind Thorpe.

Defensively, the Knights were by far and away the sharper unit. Charlotte did not commit an error while the Redbirds’ five miscues were a season-high.

Game Two of the series is slated for Wednesday evening at Truist Field with the first pitch set for 6:35pm ET.
