ABERDEEN, MD --- Ryan Gridley and Logan Farrar each had three hits and scored two runs, while Aaron Arruda added a two-run homer as the Vermont Lake Monsters set a season-high in runs and hits with an 11-2 New York-Penn League victory over the Aberdeen Ironbirds Sunday evening at Ripken Stadium.

Vermont snapped a 1-1 tie with three runs in the third inning. Jordan Devencenzi blooped an RBI single to rightfield scoring Kevin Merrell with the go ahead run, then scored on an Anthony Churlin line drive RBI triple down the leftfield line. The triple was the 10th of the season for the Lake Monsters, matching their season total for 2016 season.
Gridley knocked home the third run of the inning as he just beat a two-out gounder to shortstop for an RBI infield single. Then in the fourth, Arruda blasted his two-run homer over the scoreboard in leftcenter to give Vermont a 6-1 lead.
The Lake Monsters broke the game open with five runs on three hits, two walks, a hit batter and a fielding error in the top of the fifth for an 11-1 advantage. Vermont scored four of the five runs on a bases loaded Lana Akau walk, Kevin Merrell sacrifice fly and Greg Deichmann two-run single.
Josh Reagan (1-0) was charged with one run on two hits with two strikeouts over three innings of relief to earn the victory, while Oscar Tovar allowed three hits and struckout three over final four scoreless innings for his second save of the season.
Devencenzi, Churlin and Deichmann each had two hits for Vermont in its 14-hit attack, bettering previous high of 13 hits in a game twice (July 2nd and July 5th), while its 11 runs were one more than previous high of 10 at Tri-City June 25th.
Starter Cameron Ming (0-1) allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits over 3 1/3 innings to takr the loss for Aberdeen (17-14). Jaylen Ferguson and Markel Jones both had two hits for the Ironbirds, who lost the last two games of the series after taking the opener on Friday.
The victory improved Stedler Division-leading Vermont to 19-13 overall, including 10-6 in 16 road games. The 2016 Lake Monsters had just 10 road wins in 38 away games for the season (10-28).
Vermont returns home to historic Centennial Field for a three-game series against the Tri-City ValleyCats beginning at 5:05 pm on Sunday with a special appearance by the ZOOperstars and post-game "Have A Catch" on the field.
