All off season, leading up to Opening Day 2019, your Salem-Keizer Volcanoes will mix a little history with what to expect this upcoming exciting season. In 2012, your Volcanoes shocked the world again, helping the San Francisco Giants win their second championship in 56 years.
KEIZER, OREGON -- Some 600 miles separates Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer, Oregon and AT&T Park in San Francisco but as the San Francisco Giants punched another ticket to the World Series, their Class-A Affiliates in the Northwest League were celebrating as if on the field too. Six Salem-Keizer Volcanoes alumni are getting ready for the 2012 Fall Classic.
This Who's Who of Giants players all once suited up for the Volcanoes and played before dedicated and inspired local fans who have made the Volcanoes one of the most established professional baseball teams in Oregon history: Buster Posey (Volcanoes '08, NL Rookie of the Year '10, World Champion '10, NL Batting Champion '12, NL Comeback Player of the Year '12),
"First and foremost on behalf of the entire Volcanoes Ownership and Front Office staff we want to congratulate our parent club, the San Francisco Giants and all its players, coaches and staff for winning the 2012 National League Pennant," said Volcanoes Owner & GM, Jerry Walker. "For us in Minor League Baseball there is no greater thrill than seeing some of our former players return to the World Series and to do it with the Giants. It brings full circle everything we champion here in Salem-Keizer - the dream that from Volcanoes Stadium starts an amazing journey - for players, coaches and our incredible fans." Walker notes that while the Giants have a history that dates back to the 1883, this particular period in Giants history has been a great source of excitement for Volcanoes fans young and old.
"During the season when I meet with fans there is this incredible energy because many of our more established Volcanoes fans are teaching the game to their children and grandchildren who are now seeing Volcanoes former players in the MLB playoffs and the World Series," Walker said. "Baseball has been such an important catalyst to bring all parts of a community together, to share in something bigger than any individual and pass something along to the next generation. That in itself is great; now add another World Series to that mix and it is something that usually only Hollywood comes up with."
Walker and his staff are using the multiple Volcanoes social media sites to give their fans the inside story of this year's Volcanoes in the Fall Classic, to follow all the news fans can go to http://www.volcanoesfan.com/ . Walker also noted the Volcanoes will have a special celebration, no matter the outcome against an equally talented Detroit Tigers club, when the Volcanoes return to play next season - their 17th locally in Salem-Keizer.
"There will be plenty of time during the Volcanoes 2013 exciting season to honor this incredible run by our parent club," Walker said. "But for now, we all will sit back and cheer on the Giants and our Volcanoes alumni as they chase the most legendary trophy in all of North American sports."
