MOBILE, Ala. (May 25, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, scored four runs in the eighth inning to earn a 5-2 win over the Birmingham Barons Thursday night at Hank Aaron Stadium.
With the bases loaded and the game tied 1-1 in the eighth, Wade Wass delivered with a three-run double to left-center field off Brandon Brennan (2-2). Wass later scored on a wild pitch to give the BayBears a 5-1 lead.
Birmingham (15-31) plated a run off Abel De Los Santos in the ninth, but Michael Dimock struck out Cleuluis Rondon with two runners on base to end the game. It was Dimock's first save of the season.
Alex Blackford pitched a season-high six innings and gave up just one run on three hits in his first quality start with the BayBears (21-26). Justin Anderson (1-1) pitched two innings of scoreless relief to earn his first win of the season.
Forrestt Allday went 1-for-3 with a walk, extending his on-base streak to 28 straight games.
Michael Kopech gave up one run on four hits and struck out six batters in five innings pitched. Neither team's starting pitcher factored in the decision.
The BayBears continue a five-game home series against Birmingham Friday at 7:05 p.m. CT. Right-hander Grayson Long (2-2, 2.61 ERA) is slated to make the start against southpaw Jordan Guerrero (0-6, 5.44 ERA) for the Barons.
