ASHEVILLE-- Bobby Wernes has made a major impact on the Asheville Tourists in the six games he has been in uniform but none bigger than Wednesday night. Wernes' walk off single in the bottom of the tenth inning scored Jose Gomez to beat the Greenville Drive 6-5.
With one out, Gomez singled and went to third on Willie Abreu's double. The Drive issued an intentional walk to Jacob Bosiokovic to load the bases for Wernes. Hildemaro Requena threw Bobby a ball and a strike before the Tourists first baseman laced a line drive back up the middle for the walk off winner.

Asheville overcame an early 2-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the third. Manny Melendez, Gomez, and Bosiokovic all connected with RBI hits in the inning and the Tourists batted around against Drive starter Kyle Hart.
Erick Julio battled for six innings but the Drive recorded 11 hits off the Tourists starter. Julio was able to minimize the damage against him for the most part and he departed with the Tourists in front 5-4. Greenville rallied for a run in the bottom of the seventh when Tyler Spoon drove in Santiago Espinal with a two-out single.
The game remained tied 5-5 until the bottom of the tenth thanks to Bryan Baker's three innings of relief work. Baker notched his team leading sixth win of the season. Offensively, Gomez led the way with three hits and a pair of runs batted in.
The Drive had multiple chances to score that they left on the table. Greenville pounded out a total of 15 hits and saw the leadoff man reach base in nine of the ten innings played.
The Tourists will attempt to sweep the Drive on Thursday night when the Asheville Hippies take on the Greenville professional baseball team at 7:05pm.
