MYRTLE BEACH, SC -LeDarious Clark launched his third homer in four games in the Wood Ducks' (29-29, 53-74) loss to the Pelicans (26-32, 69-59) by a 7-3 final. The loss snaps the Woodies winning streak at three games.

Another streak snapped with Wes Benjamin taking the loss on the mound. The Woodies had won nine straight games he started since June. Three of the five runs charged to him scored after he exited the game with the lead.
Down East had to play catch-up, trailing 2-0 through four innings. Clark's solo blast cleared the bleachers in left field with one out in the fifth. He was followed by Josh Altmann's double to left-center to put the tying run in scoring position for the top of the order. With two outs and two strikes, Josh Morgan lined a single into right-center to tie the game.
Benjamin responded with a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth - a streak of seven batters retired in a row. In the sixth, the road got rocky and he exited with one out and the bases loaded for Jose Valdespina. A walk and an error led to all three runs scoring for the Pelicans to take the lead 5-3.
Myrtle Beach would keep their bats hot in the seventh with two more runs off of Valdespina to push the lead to 7-3, the eventual final.
The silver lining of the loss is Buies Creek also lost on Tuesday night so the deficit remains 4.5 games with 12 games remaining in the half.
Game two of the series is on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. with rehabbing righty Adrian Sampson on the mound for the Wood Ducks. He will face right-hander Kyle Miller for the Pelicans. You can listen to every pitch of the 2017 season live on Sports/Talk 960 The Bull or streamed on the TuneIn Radio app.
