SALEM, Va. (Sept. 3, 2017) - On the heels of a 2-0 shutout win in game one, the Dash used a late-inning, unearned run to eke past the Red Sox in game two of the doubleheader 3-2 in eight innings, sweeping the twin bill on Sunday afternoon at Haley Toyota Field.
With the game tied at two in the eighth, Seby Zavala led off the inning with a single to right against Salem reliever Adam Lau (4-7). Matt Rose laid down a sacrifice bunt, but a throwing error from Lau pulled Nick Lovullo off second base and allowed both runners to reach. Brady Conlan kept the inning going with a perfectly-placed bunt between third and the pitcher's mound that Lau could not handle cleanly, loading the bases with nobody out.

The next batter Jeff Gelalich patiently worked the count against Lau, eventually earning a full-count walk that scored Zavala and gave Winston-Salem a 3-2 lead it would not relinquish.
Ian Hamilton (3-3) finished off the doubleheader sweep with a spotless seventh and eighth inning, striking out four batters on 31 pitches.
After Dane Dunning spun a seven-inning, one-hit complete-game shutout in the twin bill opener, the Red Sox (33-36, 73-65) wasted no time in game two, scoring two runs in the first against Dash starter Ian Clarkin. Salem's leadoff man Justin Pacchioli worked a walk to begin the first, and Bryan Hudson reached on a throwing error by Clarkin. The next batter Conrad Gregor singled to left to score Pacchioli, and Jose Sermo plated Hudson on a sacrifice fly to give the Red Sox an early 2-0 lead.
Winston-Salem (31-38, 55-84) would answer back with a run in the third inning. Toby Thomas doubled with one out in the frame, and two batters later, Zavala ripped an RBI single to right to cut the Dash's deficit in half.
Three innings later, Winston would tie it in the sixth thanks to a wild pitch from Lau. Rose started the frame with a double to left-center that one-hopped the wall, quickly moving to third on Conlan's sacrifice bunt. Red Sox starter Logan Boyd then issued a walk to Gelalich and was removed from the game in favor of Lau. On his first offering, Lau uncorked the aforementioned wild pitch, allowing Rose to score from third and knot the game at two.
Salem threatened to take the lead in the sixth with runners at the corners and one out in the inning. The batter Chris Madera smacked a sharp grounder to Rose at first base, with Gregor taking off from third on contact. Rose fielded the ball cleanly and tagged the first base bag before whipping a perfect throw to the plate, and Daniel Gonzalez applied the tag on Gregor in time to complete the double play and save a run.
In the win, Ryan Burr and Andre Wheeler tossed three scoreless innings of relief. Burr has not allowed an earned run in 8.1 innings for Winston-Salem, spanning six appearances.
The Dash and Red Sox will conclude the 2017 campaign with a 1:05 p.m. tilt on Monday at Haley Toyota Field. Right-hander Jimmy Lambert (4-4, 6.00 ERA) gets the call in the season finale against Salem lefty Kyle Hart (2-2, 2.62 ERA).
