KINSTON, NC - Three homers in five batters catapulted the Wood Ducks ahead on Sunday in their 6-3 victory over the Mudcats. The victory clinches the first sweep of the season for the Woodies and they have won four in a row.
Anderson Tejeda got things going in the sixth for Down East as he blasted a no-doubt three-run homer to right center. It was the young Dominican's third homer and 18th, 19th, and 20th runs batted in, extending his team lead in both categories.

The homer was only the second hit for the Woodies in the game against Carolina starter Trey Supak. His replacement, Alec Crawford, allowed back-to-back homers by Chuck Leblanc and Alex Kowalczyk in the next inning. It was the first time the former Pittsburgh Panther duo went back-to-back this season. Down East held a 5-1 lead through seven.
Christian Torres started with the Woodies and tossed five quality innings, with the only run that crossed as unearned. He set a new season-high with six strikeouts in the no decision. James Jones was the first man out of the bullpen and his two scoreless innings of work gave him his first professional win as a pitcher.
With the score 6-3 in the ninth, C.D. Pelham entered for his third save opportunity of the season. Despite loading the bases with two outs, Pelham recorded a strikeout for all three outs in the save. His 15.28 SO/9IP ratio currently slots third-best among relievers in the Carolina League.
The Wood Ducks finish the month of April with a 12-12 record and only four games back of the Buies Creek Astros ahead of their series at Grainger Stadium beginning Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
