Yankees LHP Nestor Cortes To Rehab With Somerset

Bridgewater, New Jersey – The New York Yankees are currently scheduling an MLB rehab assignment for LHP Nestor Cortes with the Double-A Somerset Patriots on Friday, July 28 at TD Bank Ballpark. The Patriots take on the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles) at 7:05 pm.

Cortes made a rehab start for Somerset in Hartford on Sunday, July 23 and went 2.1 innings and allowed a run on four hits and struck out four batters.

Cortes was placed on the injured list on June 8 (retro June 5) with a left rotator cuff strain. He was transferred to the 60-day injured list on July 7.

Prior to the injury, Cortes was 5-2 with a 5.16 ERA and 59 strikeouts over 59.1 innings pitched in 11 starts.

In a 2022 All-Star season, Cortes went 12-4 with a 2.44 ERA and 163 strikeouts in 158.1 innings pitched in 28 starts. His ERA, games started, innings pitched and strikeouts were all career-highs.

Originally selected by the Yankees in the 36th round of the 2013 MLB Draft, the Yankees signed Cortes as a minor league free agent on December 10, 2020. He made his MLB debut on March 31, 2018 with the Baltimore Orioles against the Minnesota Twins.

For his MLB career with the Baltimore (2018), New York (2019, 2021-2023) and the Seattle Mariners (2020), Cortes has an MLB career 24-11 record, 3.83 ERA and 405 strikeouts in 389.2 innings pitched in 103 games (55 starts).

He becomes the 10th different Yankee to rehab with Somerset this season and 27th overall since becoming the Double-A affiliate in 2021.
