Yard Goats Drop Final Game of Road Trip 2-1
Binghamton, NY- The Binghamton Rumble Ponies defeated the Hartford Yard Goats by the score of 2-1 on Thursday night at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, New York. It was the final contest of a four game in three-day road trip as the Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Donuts Park tomorrow night to host the Yankees affiliate, the Trenton Thunder. Patrick Mazeika ripped a two-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Mets top prospect Andrés Giménez and give the Rumble Ponies a 2-1 lead. Hartford starter Rico Garcia turned in another quality start and limited Binghamton to just one run over seven innings with six strikeouts. Chris Rabago homered for the Yard Goats who were denied a series win in New York.
The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game as catcher Chris Rabago led off the third inning with a solo home run off Binghamton knuckleballer Mickey Janis. Rabago cranked a line drive homer down the left field line and into the Hartford bullpen for his fourth home run of the season. The Yard Goats had the bases loaded in the third inning but could not add another run.
The Rumble Ponies tied the game at 1-1 with a run in the sixth inning off Hartford starter Rico Garcia. After retiring eight straight Batters, Garcia allowed a bunt single to Patrick Biondi to start the sixth. However he was erased on a caught stealing. Then with two outs Joey Terdoslavich and Will Toffey cracked back-to-back doubles and tied the game at 1-1.
Binghamton took a 2-1 lead on Patrick Mazeika's RBI single in the eighth inning scoring Andres Gimenez with the go-ahead run. The two-out hit came off reliever Brian Moran who was tagged with the loss. The Yard Goats split the four game series with the Rumble Ponies.
The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin' Donuts Park on Friday night and host the New York Yankees affiliate, the Trenton Thunder for the first of a three-game weekend series. The game will be televised on Vantage SportsNet (Channel 1600) and also broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
