Hartford, CT - Jared Thomas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as the Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 4-3 on Friday night in front of 7,389 fans at Dunkin’ Park. After surrendering the lead in the top of the ninth, the Yard Goats rallied for a run in the bottom half to win for the fifth time in seven games. Zach Kokoska led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jimmy Obertop. After Andy Perez was intentionally walked, Thomas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded giving the Yard Goats the victory. Colorado Rockies third baseman Kyle Karros went 1-4 with an RBI-double on a major league rehab appearance. Yard Goats starter Konner Eaton fired six strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits while walking two and striking out five.
Reading opened the scoring in the top of the first when Bryan Rincon hit his 23rd home run of the season off Eaton, giving the Fightin Phils a 1-0 lead.
The Yard Goats got on the board in the bottom of the second when GJ Hill crushed an RBI-double to right field off Reading starter Luke Russo, tying the game at 1-1.
The Fightin Phils took the lead in the top of the seventh when Rincon hit an RBI sac-fly that scored Bryson Ware and gave Reading a 2-1 lead.
Hartford responded by scoring two runs on a pair of RBI-doubles in the bottom of the seventh. The first came from Kokaska who lined an RBI-double down the right field line, tying the game at 2-2. Then, Karros cracked an RBI-double into right field, giving the Yard Goats a 3-2 lead.
Reading tied the game in the top of the ninth when Caleb Ricketts hit his 11th home run of the season, tying the game at 3-3.
The Yard Goats scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth when Thomas was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, giving Hartford the 4-3 win.
