FREDERICK, MD-This past weekend, former Keys outfielder, Mike Yastrzemski , made his MLB debut for the San Francisco Giants. In the process, he became the 168th former Keys player to reach the Major Leagues and the second ex-Keys player to do so in 2019. Yastrzemski joins Branden Kline , who was called up to the Orioles and made his Major League debut on April 20.
Yastrzemski, 28, had his contract selected by the Giants from the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats on Saturday. He made his Major League debut that evening, starting in leftfield. On Sunday, Yastrzemski tallied his first MLB hit, going 3-for-4 against the Diamondbacks.

Before his call-up, Yastrzemski was slashing .316/.414/.676 with a 1.090 OPS. In 40 games, he hit 12 home runs, 25 RBIs, one triple, 11 doubles, scored 38 runs and stole two bases. At the time of his promotion, Yastrzemski was fourth in the Pacific Coast League in runs scored, sixth in slugging and eighth in OPS.
The grandson of Hall of Famer, Carl Yastrzemski, Mike was selected by the Orioles in the 14th round of the 2013 draft out of Vanderbilt. He was traded from Baltimore to San Francisco on March 23 in exchange for right-handed pitcher, Tyler Herb. Before his departure, Yastrzemski appeared in 14 Major League spring training games for the Orioles.
Briefly a member of the Keys in 2014, the former Commodore batted .312/.364/.462 with an .827 OPS in 23 games with the orange and black. He hit one home run, two triples, seven doubles, drove in 18 runs, scored 21 runs and stole five bases. The highlight of Yastrzemski's time with the Keys came on July 5, when he hit for the cycle against the Lynchburg Hillcats.
The Keys begin a five-game homestand on Wednesday night against the Lynchburg Hillcats. Left-hander Cameron Bishop (0-2, 3.38) starts for the Keys and will be opposed by Lynchburg right-hander Matt Solter (3-0, 1.02). First pitch is at 7:00 p.m. and the broadcast can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn radio app.
