Young, Generals Shut Out Braves Again

Pearl, Miss. - For the second night in a row, the Generals shut out Mississippi as Jackson won 1-0 over the Braves Monday at Trustmark Park. Alex Young and a trio of relievers held the Braves to just three hits en route to Jackson's fourth consecutive victory.
Jackson (9-9, 46-42) matched it's longest winning streak of the season with the victory. The Generals last won four in a row at Hank Aaron Stadium in early May. The three hits allowed were tied for the fewest the team has given up in a game this year. The shutout was Jackson's tenth, and their fourth by a score of 1-0. 

The only run crossed home plate in the second inning. Jamie Westbrook led off with a single, stretching his hitting streak to nine games. A hit and a walk later, the bases were loaded. With two outs, Mississippi's Wes Parsons (0-2, 3.33) hit Domingo Leyba in the foot to force Westbrook home. The 1-0 lead would hold.
Alex Young (5-5, 4.64) turned in one of his best starts of the season in the win, going five scoreless innings. The lefty did not allow a hit until the fifth inning. With two outs, Kade Scivicque singled and Keith Curcio doubled to put two men on base. After Young walked Andrew Daniel to load the bases, he struck out Connor Lien to end the threat.
Young was pulled with his spot in the order due up in the top of the sixth inning. He threw 58 pitches over five innings, 42 of which were strikes. Bud Jeter was perfect over two innings behind him, striking out three in his second Double-A outing. Mason McCullough ran into some trouble in the eighth, walking a pair to put the tying run in scoring position. The righty worked out of it, getting Ronald Acuña Jr. to pop out.
In the ninth, Yuhei Nakaushiro (S, 3) finished it off. Travis Demeritte's one-out single put the tying run on base, but Nakaushiro promptly induced a game-ending double play to end it. The lefty has not allowed a run in any of his last 11 outings dating back to June 13.
Mississippi (4-13, 38-49) has gone without a run in 19 innings, scoring last in the eighth inning Friday night in Mobile. The Generals have not allowed a run in 20 innings going back to their win Saturday night against Birmingham.
The Generals can make it a season-best five wins in a row Tuesday night in the third game of the series. Righty Joel Payamps (3-3, 6.02) takes the hill for Jackson against Mississippi lefty Luiz Gohara (1-1, 2.72).
