SPRINGDALE, AR – Alberto Rodriguez hit a solo homer and an RBI single in the Northwest Arkansas Naturals’ (27-41, 56-79) 8-4 defeat to the Tulsa Drillers (42-26, 88-49) on Saturday night at Arvest Ballpark to lose their fifth straight game. The Naturals conclude the season against the Drillers on Sunday, with first pitch at 2:05 PM CT.
Tulsa scored four runs in the third, three in the fourth and tacked on another in the fifth to take an 8-0 lead halfway through the ballgame.
The Naturals scored two in the eighth to cut into the deficit. Connor Rasmussen picked up his first Double-A hit with a double to right-center. Rodriguez knocked in Rasmussen with a single and Connor Scott’s single plated Rodriguez to make it 8-2.
Northwest Arkansas brought in another two in the ninth – both on big swings. Angel Acosta homered for the second consecutive night. The lefty crushed a solo shot to right field, and reached base safely for the sixth straight game. Over the six-game span, Acosta is hitting 8-for-23 (.348) with two long balls and a career-high four-hit game on September 10.
Rodriguez followed up Acosta with a solo blast of his own to bring the deficit to 8-4. He hit his third homer of the season. Sam Kulasingam walked to keep the game alive, the second time he reached base during the contest. Kulasingam extended his on-base streak to 19 straight affairs, which is tied for the longest streak by a Natural this season. The Nats failed to score more and fell 8-4 to drop their fifth game in a row to Tulsa.
