Nuts Battle Back for 6-4 Win

Modesto, CA. - Erasing two deficits, the Modesto Nuts defeated the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6-4 on Wednesday night at John Thurman Field.
Darien Tubbs homered to lead off the game for the Quakes (65-51; 29-17) against Nuts (61-55; 22-24) starter Spencer Herrmann.
In the bottom of the second, both Kyle Lewis and Joey Curletta recorded RBI doubles against Quakes starter Jordan Sheffield (L, 0-1). In the top of the fifth Omar Estevez gave the Quakes the lead with a RBI single before Keibert Ruiz added to the advantage with a sac fly.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Nuts came right back and took the lead for good. Quakes starter Jordan Sheffield loaded the bases with no outs by hitting Logan Taylor before a pair of walks. He was removed from the game and Jason Richman surrendered a two-run double to Rayder Ascanio that tied the game. The very next batter, Jordan Cowan, gave the Nuts the lead with a two-run single. It was his third hit of the night to extend his hitting streak to 16 games.
Matt Festa (S, 3/5) worked the ninth with three strike outs while working around an error.
Joey Strain (W, 3-2) earned the victory out of the bullpen tossing 1 2/3 innings allowing four hits and two runs with one strikeout.
