Nuts cap incredible week with another win

August 18, 2013

MODESTO, CA (August 18th, 2013) -- The Nuts scored in the first inning against Bakersfield and never looked back en route to a 6-1 on Sunday night at John Thurman Field.

Modesto (33-23, 65-61) has now won seven in a row, matching their longest winning streak of the season when they started the second half 7-0. The club temporarily moved 3 1/2 games on top of Visalia with 14 games to play.

In the first, Taylor Featherston led off with a walk and quickly scored on an RBI double from Trevor Story. That was the start of a very opportunistic Nuts attack, making the most of their opportunities all night long. Tyler Massey led off the second with a single, and eventually scored on a groundout by Brian Humphries.

Leading 2-0 in the fourth, the Blaze got their only run of the night against Nuts starter Tyler Anderson on a 2-out RBI double from Juan Duran. Anderson (2-2) would cruise through the contest, going seven strong while allowing just five hits and two walks. He struck out three.

Blaze starter James Allen (8-10) went through five innings, giving up three earned runs in the loss.

David Kandilas drew a one-out walk in the fifth, and after stealing second, he was able to score on an RBI single by Massey.

Story opened the sixth with a walk, stole second and third, and scored on a two-out RBI single from Jordan Ribera. The night was capped with two runs in the seventh on a sac-fly by Featherston and an RBI groundout from Humphries.

Nelson Gonzalez and Ryan Buch combined to retired the final six of the night out of the bullpen.

Following a day off, the Nuts will hit the road for their final trip of the season, starting with three games in Visalia. Modesto will continue next weekend with a four-game set in Lake Elsinore.

RHP Jon Gray (2-0, 0.64) gets the start for the Nuts on Tuesday night at Recreation Park, facing Rawhide RHP Brandon Sinnery (3-1, 3.38). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
