Chiefs Allow Early Runs, Fall to Burlington

Peoria, IL - After falling behind early, the Chiefs fell to the Burlington Bees 4-1 Monday night at Dozer Park. The Chiefs fall to 3-8 in the second half and 33-47 overall on the season with two games left in the homestand.

  Burlington opened the scoring in the top of the second against Chiefs starter Colin Schmid. After a single and walk, a balk moved runners to second and third as Connor Fitzsimons grounded out to score the first run and a passed ball increased the lead to 2-0.. After walking the bases loaded, a second groundout scored a run to increase the lead to 3-0.
     After four scoreless innings, the Chiefs broke through against Burlington reliever Eduardo Del Rosario. With two outs, Delvin Perez was hit by a pitch and Ivan Herrera walked to put runners on first and second. Brady Whalen singled to centerfield to score Perez and cut the deficit to 3-1.
     The Bees increased their lead in the top of the seventh. With one out, Alvaro Rubalcaba hit a solo homerun for the 4-1 lead.
     Schmid (3-3) took the loss after pitching 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Freddy Pacheco surrendered two hits with two walks and two strikeouts in one shutout inning. In his Chiefs debut, Eli Kraus pitched a perfect two thirds of an inning with one strikeout. Michael Baird did not allow a baserunner as he pitched the final inning notching one strikeout in his Chiefs debut.
