Peoria, Ill. -- The Chiefs hit four home runs on Saturday, including back-to-back homers in the third inning, but fell 9-5 to Quad Cities in game five of their series.

Quad Cities held a 2-0 lead entering the third inning before the Chiefs offense came to life. With Matt Chamberlain standing on third, Brady Whalen hit his seventh homer of the year, a two-run blast, to tie the game. The next batter, Chandler Redmond, hit a 459-foot jolt to give the Chiefs their first lead, 3-2.

The power display continued into the fourth inning, when Leandro Cedeno hit an opposite-field home run to extend the Chiefs lead to 4-2. Two innings later, Tyler Reichenborn hit his third round-tripper of the year to give Peoria their biggest lead of the night, 5-2.

Peoria starter Logan Gragg worked 5.1 innings and held first-place Quad Cities to just two runs. He struck out four.

Gragg was tagged with a no decision, however, as the River Bandits rallied against the Peoria bullpen. Quad Cities sent nine men to the plate in both the eighth and ninth innings and scratched seven runs in the process, taking a 9-5 lead to the bottom of the ninth. Two men reached for the Chiefs in the bottom of the frame but they were unable to mount a rally.

Peoria will look to secure the series win tomorrow in the finale with Quad Cities. Right-hander Michael YaSenka will oppose Anthony Veneziano for the second time in this series. First pitch for Sunday’s game is scheduled for 1:35 p.m. After an off day Monday, the Chiefs will welcome in Beloit on Tuesday to continue their 12-game homestand.
