Sky Carp Salvage Series Finale on Sunday

PEORIA, IL– The Beloit Sky Carp plated eight unanswered runs Sunday to best the Peoria Chiefs 9-4 on Sunday afternoon at Dozer Park.

The Chiefs took an early lead over the Sky Carp with two runs in the first frame. Darlin Moquete laced a triple into center field and Anyelo Encarnacion blasted his first High-A home run to make the score 2-0. Beloit answered in the second after Harrison Spohn drove in Torin Montgomery.

With a 2-1 lead, Brody Moore led off the fourth inning with a single. Two batters later, Joshua Baez hit his first home run of the season, a 421-foot blast to center field to extend the Peoria lead, 4-1.

In the fifth inning, Beloit’s first three men reached to load the bases for Joe Mack. A fly ball to center was lost in the sun, earning Mack a single and plating a run to make it a 4-2 score. The left-hander Hansen exited, giving way to Wilfredo Pereira. After a strikeout, a balk plated a run to make it 4-3. Then,with the bases still loaded, Cameron Barstad gave the Sky Carp a 6-4 lead with a bases-clearing double.

Tanner Jacobson relieved Pereira and recorded two scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Nathanael Heredia threw a scoreless eighth inning with a punchout to keep the score at 6-4.

With Dionys Rodriguez on the mound in the ninth, Cappe reached second after a fielding error from Baez in right field. Rodriguez loaded the bases and walked Montgomery to advance their lead to 7-4. Two more runs scored after a third Peoria error, creating the final margin of 9-4. Dale Stanavich closed out the ninth inning 1-2-3 to give Beloit their second win of the series.

Hansen took his first loss of the young season, while starter Alex Williams earned the win for Beloit.

The Chiefs go back on the road on Tuesday night to face the Quad Cities River Bandits at 6:30 p.m.
