Beloit, Wis. -- Starting pitcher Michael YaSenka struck out a season-high nine batters Friday night but the Chiefs fell 5-4 in 10 innings to Beloit. With the loss, the Chiefs fell to 1-2 in extra inning games this season.

YaSenka, who turned 23 on Wednesday, went five innings and scattered five hits. The right-hander allowed just two earned runs and collected nine whiffs. The nine strikeouts were the most by a Chiefs starter in a single game this season.

Beloit got to YaSenka early before he was able to settle in. After a leadoff walk to Kameron Misner, Thomas Jones doubled to left field to give Beloit an early 1-0 lead. Yasenka then retired the next nine batters he faced.

The Chiefs tied the game in the fourth. After back-to-back hits from Malcom Nunez and Francisco Hernandez, Brendan Donovan’s RBI groundout knotted the game at 1-1. After Beloit answered in the bottom of the fourth, the Chiefs responded in the fifth when Nunez hit a sharp double to right to score Cristhian Longa.

The Snappers led 4-2 heading to the eighth inning before the Chiefs rallied to force extras. Chandler Redmond singled to center to make it 4-3. Redmond has recorded three multi-hit games in his last five starts. In the ninth, a lead-off walk to Tyler Reichenborn set the table for Cristhian Longa. With one out, Longa doubled to right to tie the game.

In the extra frame, the Chiefs did not record a hit and stranded the ghost runner at third base. In their half of the tenth, Beloit loaded the bases before Zachary Owings drove in the winning run with a sac fly to center.

The series continues tomorrow with two seven-inning contests, beginning at 4:00 pm. Nick Trogrlic-Iverson will toe the rubber for game one. Jack Ralston is slated to start game two. As a reminder, due to the absence of an MiLB.TV stream, there will not be a radio broadcast for this series.
