CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- In a game that took almost four hours to complete, the Peoria Chiefs fell to Cedar Rapids in 12 innings by a score of 4-1.

The game was paced by a pitchers duel between the two teams. Peoria and Cedar Rapids held each other scoreless for the first nine innings of the ballgame. For Peoria, Michael YaSenka threw six shutout innings and gave up only three hits while striking out eight batters.

Peoria threatened with runners in scoring position in the fourth inning. A walk by Pedro Pages and a single from Brady Whalen put runners on first and second base with one out. But the Chiefs would not be able to take advantage of the situation.

Cedar Rapids mounted a threat in the bottom half of the eighth frame off two straight walks to begin the inning. A costly baserunning mistake off a fly ball to left field doubled up the runner at second base.

After nine innings of scoreless ball, the Chiefs drew first blood in the top of the 10th inning. With Moises Castillo on second base to begin the inning, Peoria took advantage of two Kernels errors. Imeldo Diaz reached on a throwing error to advance Castillo to third base. Yet another throwing error off a Matt Chamberlain lineout allowed Castillo to score to give the Chiefs a 1-0 advantage.

Cedar Rapids would answer back with a run of their own in the next half-inning to tie the game at 1-1. Peoria went down in order in the 11th and 12th innings. The Kernels would win the game on a walk-off three-run homer by Wander Javier to give Peoria their third straight loss.

The two teams will continue the series tomorrow night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
