Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that LHP Charlie Barnes and LHP Bryan Sammons will join the Kernels from Elizabethton. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
The Twins selected Barnes in the fourth round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Clemson University. He has made six appearances (five starts) at Elizabethton this season, posting a 2-1 record and 1.19 ERA. In 22.2 IP, he allowed 14 hits and five runs (three earned) with 10 walks and 23 strikeouts.
The Twins selected Sammons in the 8th round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Western Carolina University. He has appeared in seven games (three starts) at Elizabethton, posting a 2-0 record and 1.46 ERA. In 24.2 IP, he allowed 14 hits and six runs (four earned) with seven walks and 31 strikeouts.

Barnes and Sammons are active and available for today's 2:05 PM home game against the Clinton LumberKings. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with four players currently on the DL and one player currently on the military leave list.
The Kernels continue a seven-game home stand today against the Clinton LumberKings with first pitch scheduled for 2:05 PM. The current home stand continues through Friday, August 4th.
