Portland, Maine - Portland Sea Dogs left-hander Daniel McGrath has been named the Eastern League Player of the Month for July announced by the league office on Sunday. McGrath is Portland's first Player of the Month winner since OF Jeremy Barfield in 2017. RHP Justin Masterson was Portland's last pitcher to take home player of the month honors (July 2007).

McGrath made six starts during the month, 2-0, 0.24 ERA (ER/37.0 IP) with 35 strikeouts and 18 hits allowed. The left-hander had a streak of 48.0 innings without allowing an earned run with Portland from May 31-July 31.
The 25-year old did not allow an earned run in five of his six starts during the month and struck out at least five batters in all six starts. That included a performance on July 25 against the visiting Harrisburg Senators where McGrath tied his career-high with eight innings in Portland's 1-0, 10-inning loss.
McGrath led all Eastern League pitchers in ERA (0.24) during July. He also finished ranked among the monthly league leaders in innings pitched (37.0-2nd), batting average against (.151-2nd), WHIP (0.89-2nd), and strikeouts (35-4th).
The lefty, who is a native of Melbourne, Australia, has appeared in 22 games, including ten starts, for the Sea Dogs this season. The lefty is 3-0 with one save, 78 strikeouts and a 1.46 ERA over 80 innings pitched.
Daniel, who also won the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week Award for July 22nd-July 28th, was signed by the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent on February 7, 2012.
Portland returns home from a six-game road trip on Tuesday night to host the Erie SeaWolves (Tigers affiliate) at Hadlock Field. Tickets are available at seadogs.com.
