BILOXI, Miss. (May 30, 2017) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are recalling right-handed pitcher Parker Bridwell , a former member of the Mobile BayBears. Bridwell is scheduled to make his Angels debut in a start Tuesday night against the Atlanta Braves at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.
In three starts with the BayBears this season, Bridwell allowed just two runs over nine innings with seven strikeouts. He was promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake on May 9 and made four appearances, three starts, with the Bees. He posted a 2-1 record with a 0.92 ERA (two earned runs in 19.2 innings pitched).
Bridwell was acquired in an April 17 trade with the Baltimore Orioles for cash considerations or a player to be named later. Following the trade, Bridwell was added to the Angels 40-man roster and optioned to the Mobile BayBears.
In his Minor League career, spanning parts of eight seasons, Bridwell went 33-45 with a 4.64 ERA in 150 games, 123 starts. He pitched in two games with Triple-A Norfolk to begin this year and was on Baltimore's 40-man roster before being designated for assignment and acquired by the Angels.
Bridwell is set to become the first member of the 2017 BayBears to appear in a Major League game this year. The 25-year-old made his MLB debut with the Orioles last year on August 21 and spent five days with the club, making two relief appearances. Tuesday will be Bridwell's first Major League game as a starting pitcher.
The Hereford, Texas, native was originally selected by the Orioles in the ninth round of the 2010 MLB Draft out of Hereford High School. Bridwell is the No. 11 prospect in the Angels organization, according to MLB Pipeline.
The BayBears begin a five-game road series against Biloxi Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. CT. Live coverage can be seen on MiLB.tv (Biloxi feed, subscription required, promo code: BAYBEARS) and heard on the BayBears Broadcast Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App, with the Countdown to First Pitch starting at 6:15 p.m. CT.
