Former BayBears outfielder Michael Hermosillo recalled by Angels

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 18, 2018) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced that they have recalled outfielder Michael Hermosillo , a former member of the Mobile BayBears. Hermosillo is scheduled to bat ninth and play right field in his Major League debut Friday night at Angel Stadium of Anaheim against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Hermosillo, 23, had a .248 average with four home runs and 26 RBIs in 77 games with the BayBears in 2017. He led the team with 21 stolen bases. Hermosillo collected a hit in 11 consecutive games from July 1 through July 12. He finished the season with Triple-A Salt Lake and was added to the Angels 40-man roster in the offseason.
After playing in 17 Major League Spring Training games with the Angels, Hermosillo was optioned to Salt Lake to begin the 2018 season. In 35 additional games with the Bees, Hermosillo recorded a .267 average with six home runs and 21 RBIs.
The Mesa, Ariz., native was selected by the Angels in the 28th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Ottawa Township (Ill.) High School. In his Minor League career, spanning parts of six seasons, Hermosillo slashed .267/.389/.481 with 24 home runs, 152 RBIs, and 87 stolen bases. He is currently the No. 9 prospect in the Angels organization, according to MLB Pipeline.
Hermosillo is set to become the fifth member of the 2017 BayBears squad to appear with the Angels this season, joining right-handed pitchers Parker Bridwell , Eduardo Paredes , Jaime Barria , and Justin Anderson .
