MOBILE, Ala. (June 23, 2017) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced Friday that they have recalled right-handed pitcher Eduardo Paredes , a former member of the Mobile BayBears. Paredes has a chance to make his Major League debut as the Angels begin a three-game road series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Paredes, 22, made nine relief appearances with the BayBears in April and allowed two runs in 12 2/3 innings pitched. He recorded one save, struck out 17 batters, and only issued four walks. Paredes is the No. 15 prospect in the Angels organization, according to MLB Pipeline.
The Valera, Venezuela native signed with the Angels as an international free agent on March 12, 2012. Despite being the youngest player on the BayBears Opening Day roster, Paredes was the longest-tenured member of the Angels organization. He pitched in a total of 44 Double-A games combined between Mobile in April and Arkansas in 2016. Paredes led the Travelers with eight saves in 35 outings.
The Angels added Paredes to the 40-man roster this past offseason on November 18, 2016. In five Major League Spring Training games this year, he pitched four scoreless innings and gave up just one hit.
Paredes was promoted to Triple-A Salt Lake on May 3 and made 15 relief appearances with the Bees. In 25 1/3 innings, he allowed just seven runs (six earned) and held opposing hitters to a .213 average.
Paredes has a chance to become the second member of the 2017 BayBears to appear in a Major League game and the first to make his MLB debut this season. He joins right-handed pitcher Parker Bridwell on the Angels active roster.
