The Carolina League has announced its 2019 All-Stars and four represent the Salem Red Sox. Right-handed pitcher Kutter Crawford, first baseman Pedro Castellanos and shortstop Ryan Fitzgerald will all play in the Midsummer Classic. Outfielder Jarren Duran will be honored as an All-Star following his promotion to AA-Portland.

Kutter Crawford has been a dominant starter for the Sox this year from his first start on Opening Night. The righty has picked up four wins in 13 starts including last Sunday at Carolina. Crawford has a 3.14 ERA through 63 innings of work, striking out 73 opponents. The honor is his second consecutive selection after earning a 2018 South Atlantic League All-Star title.

Pedro Castellanos began the season tabbed on the depth chart of Boston first base prospects and the 21-year-old has shown why. Castellanos not only pulls impressive splits at the plate but owns a .980 fielding percentage, holding down first base with 52 starts at the position in 58 of 60 games. He continues to be a force for bringing runs home with 37 RBI, batting .279. This is his first All-Star selection.
Ryan Fitzgerald is also an everyday player for Salem, making 58 starts in 60 contests. The veteran shortstop bats .315, frequently bringing home Red Sox runs with a team-leading 39 RBI. Fitzgerald has stretched for 19 extra base hits so far and owns a .980 fielding percentage between shortstop and second base. This is the Creighton alum's first All-Star designation.
Jarren Duran holds the top spot in the Carolina League in batting average (.387), on-base percentage (.456), slugging (.543), on-base plus slugging (.998), hits (77) and runs (99). The 22-year-old finished second in stolen bases (18) and fourth in extra base hits (20) before receiving his promotion to the Portland Sea Dogs on June 3, 2019. Duran has previously been named the 2018 Baseball America short-season All-Star and 2018 MiLB Organizational All-Star following his first season split between Lowell and Greenville.
The 2019 Carolina League All-Star Classic is hosted by the Frederick Keys this year and is set for Tuesday, June 18 at Nymeo Field. Pre-game ceremonies are scheduled for 7:00 PM with first pitch scheduled for 7:15.
The Salem Red Sox are the Advanced-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and call Haley Toyota Field in Salem, Virginia home.
