MOBILE, Ala. (June 8, 2018) - The Southern League announced Friday that left-handed pitcher Greg Mahle from the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, has been added to the South Division All-Star team.
Mahle, 25, has a 3-0 record with a 1.80 ERA in 18 relief appearances and one start. He has allowed just five earned runs in 25 innings pitched with nine walks and 24 strikeouts, while holding oppenents to a .184 batting average. Mahle has only given up a run in four of his 19 outings this season.
In 2015, Mahle was a MiLB.com Angels Organization All-Star and was named to the Rising Stars team in the prestigious Arizona Fall League. He made his Major League debut on April 13, 2016 and pitched in 24 games for the Angels during the 2016 season. Last year, Mahle pitched in 30 games with Mobile and posted a 6-0 record with a 2.66 ERA.
Mahle's younger brother Tyler was a Southern League Mid-Season All-Star last year with Pensacola. He is currently a Major League pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds.
The 2018 All-Star Game at Regions Field in Birmingham, Ala., will take place on Tuesday, June 19 at 7:05 p.m. CDT. The Pensacola Blue Wahoos coaching staff will coach the South Division All-Stars, while the host Barons will employ their staff to coach the North Division squad. Starting lineups for the South Division squad will be announced later Friday afternoon.
The BayBears begin a five-game home series against the Jackson Generals Friday at 7:05 p.m. CDT.
