Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Griffin Jax will join the Kernels from Elizabethton and RHP Sean Poppen has been promoted to Fort Myers (FSL). Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the moves.
The Twins selected Jax in the 3rd round (93rd overall) of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of the Air Force Academy. He spent 2016 at Elizabethton where he posted an 0-1 record and 4.15 ERA in four relief appearances. In 8.2 IP, he allowed 15 hits and four runs (all earned) with one walk and eight strikeouts.
Poppen was part of the Kernels 2017 Opening Day Roster and has posted a 6-2 record and 2.90 ERA in 14 starts for the Kernels. In 87 IP, he allowed 76 hits and 40 runs (28 earned) with 17 walks and 81 strikeouts, including a career-high 9 in his last start vs. Burlington on June 29th. He was selected by the Twins in the 19th round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of Harvard University.

Jax is active and available for tonight's 6:30 PM game at Clinton. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the Midwest League maximum of 25 active players, with four players currently on the DL.
The Kernels continue a four game commuter series tonight at Clinton with first pitch set for 6:30 PM. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, July 4th and open a seven game home series against Wisconsin and Peoria that continues through Monday, June 10th.
