Jared Akins and Jean Carlos Arias join Kernels

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that outfielders Jared Akins and Jean Carlos Arias will join the Kernels from Elizabethton; catcher David Banuelos has been promoted to Fort Myers; and outfielder DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. has been placed on the 7-day injured list, retroactive to May 12, with a left shoulder strain. Brian Maloney, Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
The Twins selected Akins in the 13th round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Fresno State. He played 18 games with the Kernels last year, batting .209 (14-67) with two doubles and 8 RBI.
Arias was a member of the Kernels 2019 Opening Day Roster and was assigned to Elizabethton on April 15. In seven games for the Kernels, he is batting .158 (3-19) with a HR and 5 RBI. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2014.
Bañuelos played in 18 games for the Kernels, batting .214 (12-56) with 2 HR and 9 RBI. He was acquired by the Twins in a 2017 trade with Seattle.
Keirsey, Jr. has played in 16 games for the Kernels, batting .127 (7-55) with 4 RBI. He was selected by the Twins in the 4th round of the 2018 First Year Player Draft out of Utah.

Akins and Arias are active and available for tonight's 6:35 PM game with the Quad Cities River Bandits. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster remains at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with three players on the injured list, and one player on the restricted list.
The Kernels are in the midst of a four-game, three-day home stand that continues tonight against Quad Cities at 6:35 PM with the gates opening at 5:30 PM. The current home stand continues through Wednesday, May 15th.
