Kernels set playoff roster with a series of roster moves

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that LHP Bryan Sammons and INF Victor Tademo will join the Kernels from Chattanooga and Rochester, RHP Carlos Suniaga has been assigned to Elizabethton and RHP Jared Finkel has been assigned to the GCL Twins. Brian Maloney, Twins Senior Manager of Minor League Operations, announced the move.
Sammons made 15 starts for the Kernels, posting a 5-5 record and 2.32 ERA. In 85.1 IP, he allowed 71 hits and 27 runs (22 earned) with 22 walks and 75 strikeouts. He was selected by the Twins in the 8th round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Western Carolina.
Tademo played three games for the Kernels, batting .500 (5-10) with a HR and 2 RBI. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on September 25, 2015 and this is his third season in the Twins organization.
Finkel made 33 relief appearances for the Kernels, posting a 5-3 record, 3.39 ERA and three saves. In 63.2 IP, he allowed 65 hits and 32 runs (24 earned) with 22 walks and 43 strikeouts. He was selected by the Twins in the 23rd round of the 2017 First Year Player Draft out of Iona.
Suniaga pitched in 19 games for the Kernels including two starts. He posted a 4-4 record and 3.50 ERA with 2 saves. In 46.1 IP, he allowed 38 hits and 22 runs (18 earned) with 16 walks and 40 strikeouts. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent in 2014.

Sammons and Tademo are active and available for tonight's 7:00 PM playoff game at Beloit. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with four players currently on the DL.
The Kernels begin the 2018 MWL Playoffs tonight at Beloit in a best of three series, and will host game 2 of the Western Division Semifinals on Thursday, August 6th at 6:35 PM with the gates opening at 5:30 PM.
