Lewin Diaz named Midwest League and Minnesota Twins Player of the Week

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Midwest League and MiLB.com announced today that Kernels first baseman Lewin Diaz has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week for the period ending May 7th. Additionally, Diaz was named the Minnesota Twins Minor League Player of the Week for the same period.In

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Midwest League and MiLB.com announced today that Kernels first baseman Lewin Diaz has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week for the period ending May 7th. Additionally, Diaz was named the Minnesota Twins Minor League Player of the Week for the same period.
In six games last week for the Kernels, Diaz hit .400 (10-25) with five doubles, a triple, two HR and 9 RBI. He was signed by the Twins as an international free agent in 2013 and is a native of Santiago de los Caballeros, DR.
Great Lakes pitcher Leo Crawford was named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the same period.
Dias is the second Kernels this season to receive Midwest League weekly honors and the third Kernel to receive Twins honors, joining Jermaine Palacios and Travis Blankenhorn.

The Kernels begin a six game road trip tonight at 6:00 PM against the Dayton Dragons, the Midwest League affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, May 15th to host the Peoria Chiefs.
