Lugnuts add prospect Diaz, 4th-rounder Morgan

LANSING, Mich. - In conjunction with the Toronto Blue Jays, the Lansing Lugnuts announced Thursday that pitcher Patrick Murphy and catcher Andres Sotillo have been placed on the 7-day Disabled List retroactive to June 6th. In their place, the Lugnuts received pitching prospect Yennsy ("JEN-see") Diaz and catcher Matt Morgan  from Extended Spring Training.View the Lugnuts' official roster.

In their place, the Lugnuts received pitching prospect Yennsy ("JEN-see") Diaz and catcher Matt Morgan  from Extended Spring Training.

The 20-year-old Diaz was signed as an international free agent in 2014 from Azua, Dominican Republic. MLB Pipeline ranks him the Blue Jays' No. 12 pitching prospect; Baseball America ranks him No. 14.

The 21-year-old Morgan was drafted in the 4th round, 2014, from Thorsby High School in Thorsby, Alabama, where he batted .520 with 52 hits, 53 RBIs and 24 steals as a senior.

Both players spent the 2016 season with Advanced-Rookie Bluefield.

Lansing (32-24) plays at 12:05 p.m. today at home against Dayton (36-22), looking to complete the three-game sweep in a brief homestand. The Lugnuts trail the second-place Dragons by three games for the Eastern Division wild card with 11 games to play in the first half.
